Police and local spy agencies in Nigeria have been ordered to release the former emir from custody. He was dethroned in a long-awaited move following the death of his father, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and is currently in office. A palace official told the Associated Press news agency that Nigeria has had an image problem in recent years because it is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, with a record of human rights abuses and corruption. While the current government is doing its best, Nigeria is still recovering from the collapse of its military dictatorship in 1999 and has had image problems ever since.
The change is notable for its location in the heart of the capital Kano and its proximity to the city's main airport.
Kano State is also located at the intersection of all highways that cross it and is served by Kano State Highways and the Kaduna State Highway System (KSAHSS).
